Study Abroad

 

Ferderick Douglas Fellowship 

Consistent with Douglass’ legacy, Frederick Douglass Global Fellows are meritorious individuals who demonstrate high academic achievement, possess exemplary communication skills, display the hallmarks of self-determination, exhibit characteristics of bold leadership, and have a history of service to others.

 

 

ELIGIBILITY

  • Applicants must have a minimum GPA 3.00, reside in the U.S. with Student Status or be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. National or Permanent Resident.
  • Applicants must be Pell Grant eligible and enrolled in an accredited Minority Serving Institution in good academic standing.

Deadline: Currently Closed

Award: 

  • Fellowships will be awarded based on a combination of financial need, academic achievement, and nominations from students’ MSI presidents.
  • Awards will cover the full cost of travel to and participation in a four-week study abroad program in Cape Town, South Africa sponsored by CIEE.

Chanellor's Global Scholarship (CGS) for Study Abroad

 

ELIGIBILITY

 

  • Undergraduate student at a CUNY community or senior college at the time of enrollment in the study abroad program.
  • Study abroad program must be credit-bearing and fit into the student’s degree plan.  Applicants must submit documentation showing that the course(s) fit into her or his degree plan.  Awards may be rescinded if a recipient does not take the approved courses.
  • Applicants are encouraged to consider CUNY study abroad programs, including those offered by other CUNY campuses by EPermit.  Non-CUNY study abroad programs must be approved by the study abroad office or international education liaison at the student’s home college.
  • A completed FAFSA application (apply here).  (Applicants must either be U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens according to FAFSA rules).

 

Deadline: Winter 2017-18 or Spring 2018

Award: $1,000 ( can possibly be more depending on the program)

Eligibility: Only Federal Pell Grant recipients are eligible

Amount: Up to $5,000 for a summer (2-4 weeks) study abroad program

Essays Required: Explain the significance of your proposed country, region, and language to U.S. national security and
describe how it will help you

Deadline: February for a program beginning after June 1 of the same year.

Amount: $20,000 for a full academic year, $10,000 for a semester, and $8,000 for summer (STEM only).

Eligibility: U.S. citizen
Essays: Five short essays (100-350 words each)

 

 

Note: Language proficiency requirement: No previous knowledge required: Azerbaijani, Bangla, Hindi,
Indonesian, Korean, Punjabi, Swahili, Turkish, Urdu; One year of study: Arabic and Persian; Two years of
study: Chinese, Japanese, and Russian

Deadline: November for the summer of the following year

Amount: Fully-funded summer program
