As I return to LaGuardia from one the best summers of my life- I find that I am now different. The Et program at Vassar was far more than my expectations- what I learned and went through was filled with hard yet fully satisfying lessons! I learned to have agency! I learned I was more than a college student I was also a civilian with a duty to the world I live in. The professors were all extremely helpful-it was an experience that allowed me to feel as if I was a Vassar student. they graded, treated and spoke to us as Vassar students. They upheld us to those standards although we all came from community colleges and that was encouraging. I felt pushed to achieve above my capacity-and although in the beginning It was hard- I slowly but surely progressed. That was the highlight of my summer ,seeing myself grow-seeing myself as more than a writer or an artist- finally understanding I can also be a scholar and I am fully capable of it.

The program also allowed me to explore my academic side more. I had taken Honor ELL. 101 (Intro to Language) I had LOVED the course and was extremely curious about the field of linguistics. At Vassar because there were many students from all over the nation , I met students whose language stories fascinated me, all from simple word alterations my friends from California had -to My friends from Arizona who lived on a reservation and spoke Navajo to me. By the end of the summer I concluded that I wanted to pursue a degree in linguistics.

I don't want to lose my artistic persona because I choose to follow a more academic career -as it is who I am. However, I want both passions to embrace each other. if you have been looking through my Eportfolio you will notice my pass goals were to focus on business and theater. I plan on applying to an interdisciplinary program were I will be able to double major in linguistics and theater. I wish to establish a literacy campaign through the arts. I find this my new goal-and I have never felt so passionate about a goal. I would finally be taking what I learned as a student and transforming it into Agency towards this world! Eportfolio has been the tool I have used to record my initial thoughts on the program and it is now the tool in which I express  my emotions after the program.
