ASAP   

     I am part of ASAP (accelerated study in associate programs). This program helps me achieve my goal to graduate from LaGuardia within 3 years. They give me academic support as well as finical support. I meet with my advisor every month to let her know how I'm doing and what I need help with. I really enjoy being part of this amazing program because, I have a group of people who share my same goal and will help me achieve it.

Sadie Nash Leadership Program 

     I am in intern at the Sadie Nash Leadership Project office. I handle different types of paper work such as writing out permission slips for young women to attend different college trips, I send out weekly emails to all the young women who are involved with Sadie Nash; in the emails I include all sorts of events (most of them free) that have to do social justice, fighting for right, and more than anything, events that help them practice their leadership skills.   

Along with being a intern at the SNLP office I also work with a partnership that SNLP has with my former High School, The Renaissance Charter School. Every week on Wednesday, I facilitate a class of 9th graders and teach them about leadership. In these classes, I teach the young ladies to use their voice, stand up for what they believe in, and bring out their leadership. In Sadie Nash we believe that everyone is a leader and everyone can make a change. My job is to help them become those leaders and give them the right tools to use in order to achieve that.

Calpulli Mexican Dance Company

     I am a dancer at Calpulli Mexican Dance Company. This company showcases different types of traditional Mexican dances. I enjoy dancing for many reasons. Not only is it a good workout, but it is a way I am learning and keeping my culture alive. I don't travel to Mexico often; I'm 19 and I've only visited 3 times. However, when I dance I feel as if I'm keeping a part of my culture with me everywhere I go, as well as showing the public the beauty of the dance. Each dance has a reason as to why you wear that certain costume and why the music uses only certain type of instruments. I have been dancing since I was 12 and part of Calpulli for 3 years now.
