This quote is important to me because everyday something new happens, some times we don't have control over them. Therefore we are faced with the struggle to overcome them and then that is where we see our strength.

I had spent weeks and months searching for the college of my dreams. I dreamt of a college somewhere in California or Texas, somewhere away from New York. I wanted to dorm to learn how to become independent and to focus on my studies. In the summer of my junior year, in late August, only weeks before I stared my senior year, I was rushed to the emergency room. I was experiencing the worst headache of my life. This unbearable pinching pain that made me unresponsive to my surrounding was what I later learned: a cerebral aneurysm.

“As the aneurysm grows there is a greater risk of rupture - this can lead to severe hemorrhage, and other complications, including sudden death." I was hospitalized for two weeks and sent home as if nothing ever happened, brand new. However, recovery consisted of bed rest, physical therapy 2 times a week and seeing a therapist every week . During this time I suffered from emotional as well as physical distress. Long story short: I missed my first semester of senior year which consisted of college visit/ college fairs and most importantly sending out college applications to my dream schools. I was able to apply to all CUNY school and thankfully got accepted to LaGuardia Community College.

Although it wasn’t my dream school, I was beyond ecstatic to start college. Yet, with a lot of baggage and trauma from the prior months, I was ready to continue my education: now more than ever. Every day is a new experience.

I'm pretty sure you've heard of  the phrase “You learn something new every day”. This quote has been said to me as a child and even now I’m still told this. As a child I knew this to be true. I would learn new words, problem-solving in math, basic sciences and of course, America’s history. Growing up and learning other subjects that surpass what I’ve learned before makes it difficult to really figure out if I’ve truly learned what I’m taught. Anyone can come up to you and teach you something but in my opinion, if you don’t practice what you learn, understand, connect, and physically prove that you’re learning, then you’re not.

Throughout this ePortfolio, I will be demonstrating all my achievements and accomplishments I’m making in LaGuardia. My dreams still remain the same as before even if it wasn’t the exact path I wished for; I’m creating a new path.
