The Lit 2019 Submission Guidelines
The Lit is a collection of literary, visual, and musical art created by LaGuardia Community College students. We aim to showcase the entire range of ingenious expression found on campus. Ask for a free copy in E 103!
Each edition is designed, edited and printed every spring by an editorial team of interns enrolled in English 288 (Spring I) and distributed at the Launch Party the following fall.
The Lit accepts a wide range of creative works. We welcome:
- Writing: short fiction, creative non-fiction, poetry, drama
and critical essays.
- Art: photography, painting, drawing, sculpture, graphic novel excerpts,
and mixed media.
I. General Submission
While The Lit is curated only in the spring, General Submissions of both writing and art are accepted all year round. If you are a songwriter, contact Prof Tom Dempsey to submit work.
II. Creative Writing Contest
Each year, in conjunction with the English Department, The Lit hosts a creative writing contest in March. In addition to being published in The Lit, winners are also invited to read their work at an English Department celebration in May. All creative writing submissions will be considered for the Creative Writing Contest. This year’s deadline is April 5.
Submission limits: Submit 1-3 poems, 1 short fiction, 1 creative non-fiction, 1 dramatic piece, or 1 essay up to eight pages in length, or 1-3 art works.
Guidelines:
- All submissions are by email.
- All literary submissions should be sent in an attached Word Doc format.
- All art submissions should be sent in Megabites (MB) as attached jpegs (300 PDI).
- All submissions should be "blind" - your name should not show on the submitted work. Instead, in your email, include a short bio with your name, work titles, and contact info.
Submit materials to submissions.thelit@gmail.com
Write "Submission 2019” in the subject of your email.
Please be patient with us as we review all your submissions!
