Mother Reflected

by Clara Leonor Cruz-St. John

before she left

          She

opened all the windows

all the doors

to let the wild Sept

ember windblow

through the house

wood frames, huge

panes of glass like angled mirrors

painful   glass like  armored mirrors

so when I  step outside to call her name

I know already that she is not there

but for a moment from

the corner of my eye

I think I see her weary face

in my black sweater

reflected in three windows

and a door
